Great article. You hit all the right points when starting an edtech company. The one point that I will make, and this is something that few edtech CEOs realize in the very beginning, is that the sales cycle in the education field is VERY long. If you are selling to schools, school districts or any other academic institutions, you must be prepared to deal with entrenched bureaucracy, tight budgets and high turnover. In fact, I feel that the turnover rate in the education industry is much higher than in other industries I’ve worked in. Why? Because of mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and bad management. If you are hoping to earn a “fast buck” in the education field, you selected the wrong market. You must be patient and prepare for the long haul to be successful.
